1295914 2012-08-22 06:23:00 Thanks for the warning Neil! However, SWMBO mostly sits in front of a spinning wheel, and I can't see that changing markedly, given that has been her habit since 1967! John H (8)
1295915 2012-08-22 20:57:00 In case she missed the industrial revolution, tell her that they actually make wool yarn with BIG machines now!! linw (53)
1295916 2012-08-22 23:19:00 Very nice. linw. However, given that she was raised in Manchester, where one of her childhood memories is of the 'knockers up' going around every morning knocking on mill workers' windows to wake them up, and the sound of clogs on cobblestones as the mill workers went on shift, I think she has a vague awareness of the industrial revolution.

If you were one of our son's friends, you wouldn't make fun of her - all of them have home spun jerseys by now (some favoured ones have more than one), and lots of people in our family/of our acquaintance have home spun/crocheted blankets as well - Herself is an industrial revolution on her own. She had to give up the foot powered wheel a few years ago and move on to an electric wheel as a result of RSI in the treadling leg! I doubt an iPad is going to interrupt the flow too much.

1295917 2012-08-23 00:13:00 The only real reason imo to get the 3 over the 2 is the screen resolution, and it's a hefty price premium. Personally, I'd do it, because the higher screen res is nice, but if you're not fussed (try them back to back to decide), then you're probably not going to notice much for your money imo.

I have the 2, without SIM and to be honest wouldnt bother get 1 with the SIM, as WiFi is so prominent around the country, but if their is none, I just link with the iphone which has 3Gb 3G anyway...I think you can get 16Gb 2's for around $500...I have looked at the new one but TBH, didnt really see much benefit in the screen res....but didnt have much time with it..

1295918 2012-08-23 00:53:00 Thanks SM. I had been wondering about getting a SIM model for email access as we travel around the country in our campervan, but my impression is that you can go into any local library these days and get WIFI so I don't think I will bother. There is quite a big price difference between 3G and non 3G models.

As far as the screen res is concerned, I was mainly concerned about the perceived heat issue with the 3rd gen model, rather than the resolution per se. Given that no-one here has commented adversely on that, Herself and I will go into the shop and she can make up her mind on the resolution issue because it will be her baby. However, that will now be after her operation when we see what the budget is looking like!

See my original post. Do you propose that I should put 46 years of marriage at a hazard?

Yeas, I read your first post :)

Now it is up to you to convince her of the errors of her ways and gently direct her to the Tab2 :)

Hell. She's only a woman ;)
