It is, it is in the 'advanced' option when you enter safe mode option when booting.

1295785 2012-08-21 02:12:00 OK, got to cmd prompt, when I typed rstrui.exe it said that it is already running. That is probably because earlier on I went to use it and everything froze
I Don't have the install DVD, but I do have two recovery DVDs which I made in 2010 from Acer Recovery software in the computer. I have never done a recovery or reinstall before, so am a bit out of my depth on this. I don't want to lose stuff.

1295786 2012-08-21 02:40:00 Got your data backed up? A reinstall will wipe what is on your computer. Nick G (16709)
1295787 2012-08-21 02:44:00 Data is backed up on ext hdd.

1295788 2012-08-21 02:58:00 Since you have the data backed up, it may be easier to run the recovery DVD's you made.

If system restore stops part way through as it appears to have as you said, then it may be screwed. When system restore runs it changes reg and other files, if it stops partway, it usually gets stuck, cant go forward, cant go back.

1295789 2012-08-21 07:16:00 Still trying to retrieve something important that was not backed up. Installer files for Carrara 7. I have managed to get them into Documents, but really want to transfer them to ext hdd.
In safe mode there is no option to "Send to" Seagate ext hdd. Also, every time I start normally, computer just either loops or freezes. Very frustrating.
So far I have put off doing a recovery install with the DVDs. It might have to come to that yet though.

1295790 2012-08-21 12:13:00 I don't really know what I did this evening, but it must have been something right . Computer suddenly decided to let me transfer all the files, installers, etc over to the ext hdd!!!

I was just messing around trying different combinations of things and after several freezes and bsods, system restore started working again and so I created a new restore point .

I did however take the side off the case and blow out a bit of dust . I ran Speccy and got some temperatures as following:
CPU 35c
Graphics 53c
Are those normal?

Those temperatures seem fairly average.

The random freezing could be a hardware problem also. Might not be a bad idea to run memtest86+ or the Windows Memory diagnostic for starters.
