1295474 2012-08-19 08:34:00 Do you have the same username set up on the 2 computers but with different passwords?
Also, check advanced sharing settings (type sharing into the start menu) & turn off password protected sharing

1295475 2012-08-19 08:36:00 After you right click the folder, Sharing and add everyone, ( as per what Terry Posted) ( ignore the security tab no need ) below that is Advanced sharing Button, click that - share this folder, Permissions, click Full Control, ( Everyone Should be selected first) If you Dont do the Advanced sharing you are only half sharing and you wont get access.

Edited< and as Greven mentioned turn off password protected.

1295476 2012-08-19 08:45:00 Again - done all that. Still no joy... R.M. (561)
1295477 2012-08-19 08:56:00 Try creating a new folder in each shared drive on each of the computers and make sure each new folder is set shared, and see if you can exchange files, a sort of last desperate gasp..............:) Terry Porritt (14)
1295478 2012-08-19 09:11:00 Are both computers running Win 7? If so, are you trying to use HOMEGROUPs?
Have you read any of the networking guides on the internet?
e.g. windows.microsoft.com
It is useful to try connecting from PC number 2 back to number 1 rather than concentrating on only one way. Try sharing c:USER/name/DESKTOP on each PC so that when you transfer files you can see the icon on the other PC desktop. That may be easier than trying to locate other shared folders.
And there is likely to be a delay in getting networks to run. It's often useful to reboot both machines after making changes to sharing configuration.

1295479 2012-08-19 09:30:00 Thanks - I've gone to bed pretty tired with all that is happening with 'Himself'. I'll have another go tomorrow. :)I know I'm not thinking very clearly just now.:( R.M. (561)
1295480 2012-08-19 22:03:00 Ok - in the clear light of day! I CAN transfer files back and forward between desktop & lappy - BUT to public folders only. So the network is setup ok. To clarify - I want access to all my drives, folders, files - in both directions please? I've had this set-up working ok in the past, but I think it was a previous laptop, different version of Windows, in another life! :(

Can't get it to work on this set-up...

1295481 2012-08-19 23:36:00 I guess you just need to go through the process of sharing each and every drive on your PCs. I'm not sure why you would want/need to access the /program files and /windows folders - for example.
If something/someone were to gain access then too much sharing may be an open invitation to wreak havoc.
Personally I would share only specific folders - e.g. those with spreadsheet & document files, photos, etc wherever they may be.

1295482 2012-08-20 09:47:00 I am most definitely NOT an expert on folder sharing
but some of my problems seem to be caused by folders that have been transferred into a shared folder not taking on the new folder's "share-this-folder" setting because they prefer their own "do-not-share" setting.

The solution is to share the folder with the wanted files in it, and not rely on the sharing settings of a higher folder or drive. (Win7pro64)

1295483 2012-08-20 11:00:00 You should be able to share any folder under %userprofile% or public using the wizard. I would not recommend sharing any other folders. Greven (91)
