1296308 2012-08-23 03:32:00 I've just connected to broadband with a wireless router/modem and now want to connect another desktop pc using wireless. The modem is a NetComm N300. Should I use a pci wireless card or a usb plugin in the second pc? The distance apart of the two pc's is approx 20 metres.

Thanks

1296309 2012-08-23 03:39:00 Depends if you want to open the case, or plug it into a USB port instead. I'm using Belkin wireless USB adapters here. Just brought them last week. So far so good. Everything is working fine Speedy Gonzales (78)
1296310 2012-08-23 03:41:00 Use a USB stick. PCI cards are usually more expensive, you have to open the case to install it and the signal may not be that great.
With a uSB stick you can use a USB extension lead and move it around a bit to find the best signal and they are easier to install.

1296312 2012-08-25 22:57:00 www.alfanetwork.co.nz 20m should not be an issue for wireless, if you are connecting through walls, floors etc, signal strength can be unpredictable. Can you try the computer that currently has wireless in the location for the second computer you want to connect? If you get excellent signal strength, then a simple USB Wifi device should be fine. If the strength is low, you may want to consider a device that has a better antenna / power such as this: Alfa high power USB (www.alfanetwork.co.nz) wuppo (41)

1296314 2012-08-26 04:44:00 As wuppo said; 20m wifi simply doesn't work most of the time in the real world unless you are using high power equipment. Greven (91)
