1295774	2012-08-20 22:51:00	Is there a way to access system restore from the set up menu? Computer is freezing and blue screening Vista Home Home Premium Can't start up normally or in safe mode, just goes blank. I think it might be a Battlefield 1942 problem, as son was playing when it crapped out. I'd like to try a system restore, as that is what fixed it previously. LL	lakewoodlady (103)

1295782	2012-08-21 00:46:00	Someone will know better than me but I thought it was an option from the same menu as safe mode. If all else fails you could do a repair install, if someone can't tell you how to try restore first at least. What version of windows? I haven't done 7 recently but I have done XP so from memory it went something like; boot off windows CD continue as if installing a new copy and choose the C: drive Setup then sees the existing installation and gives you the option to repair it or install a new version Choose repair Follow the steps - you'll need the key. One possible gotcha I think I've seen someone post on here is if you have IE8 running on XP and repair it you get the IE6 files or something and it all screws up. 7 should repair fine. You will need to do a lot of updates again afterwards if it works but it should leave your programs installed and your data intact - no guarantees though.	dugimodo (138)
1295783	2012-08-21 01:06:00	Have you tried safe mode with command prompt ? If it will go into that, at the command prompt box type in rstrui.exe Press enter, confirm and system restore will open. If it wont, then boot from your Install DVD, select Repair Your Computer, it will go through and try to repair the OS. If it cant then theres options to run system restore from the DVD.	wainuitech (129)
