1295167 2012-08-17 03:03:00 As can happen (seems too often for me) the latest updates have failed to install successfully. I run Windows 7 Professional on a 64 bit machine. I have tried both automatically and manually to do this - and STILL it isn't sorted! I do recognise my brain is out to tea ('Himself' went into the Hospice yesterday :( )

Would someone please lead me through this gently? :)

1295170 2012-08-17 03:50:00 Had that as well with this last lot of updates two PC's have done the same thing. ( edited) make that 3 now.

Two ways to fix it generally, have done it both ways and both have worked.

1. run windows updates, when they show, click to highlight, then on the right, in blue look for more information - click that, a page opens, locate the update ( could be several different versions for different OS's) download it, and run, it will install, reboot, rerun updates again, repeat ( and rinse LOL - ok no rinse) and down load the next.

2. Click start, type in CMD, right click "run as administrator" - in the cmd box type in net stop wuauserv <press enter> a message will appear saying update service stopped.
Close the cmd box. Navigate to C:\Windows, locate the SoftwareDistribution folder, right click it - Delete.
Reboot the PC, to make sure the update service has restarted, open CMD again, type in net start wuauserv , you should get a message saying its already running. Close the window, rerun windows updates manually, they should now install this time.

1295171 2012-08-17 04:09:00 Thanks, Wainui. I've just managed to get it sorted (at last) by doing it, manually one by one - tedious, but it worked. :) Which is your first option, I think.
