44155 2002-04-16 12:28:00 I have connected two home computers (1700 and 466 ) both running XP pro via lan
I am connected to internet by cable modem to saturn. I have set up Zone alarm as internet firewall but it blocks my local connections. Cannot seem to configure to allow local computers to communicate and need to disable, any suggestions to change or use another firewall ?

44156 2002-04-16 21:41:00 Hi Ian

Had EXACTLY the same proble. I now use Tiny Software's Person Firewall. Very good, have had no problems with it and it's easy to use. And it's free!

44157 2002-04-16 22:00:00 I have a similar setup. I gave up on Zone Alarm and now use Sygate Personal Firewall after reading about it in NZ PC World. It works fine and is easy to configure. I have tested it on the usual web test sites, and it passed.

I also run SmartSync Pro every day to synchronise the two pcs (basically My Documents and an Archive folder), and Sygate allows that to work automatically.

44158 2002-04-17 00:30:00 Same problem, XP Pro and LAN between two PCs at home. XP has it's own firewall system so I ditched ZoneAlarm - problem solved! My advice: uninstall ZoneAlarm (you don't REALLY need it if you have dial-up connection, don't be paranoid) and try it, if unsuccessful run XP's networking wizard again... Guest (0)
44159 2002-04-17 00:36:00 Setting the Trusted Zone Security to Medium should let the network through and then the medium settings nothing should be ticked unless you specifically know the reason why you are doing it.

You should then add all the other computers' IPs into ZoneAlarm as sometimes the IP/subnet does not always work as intended.

If that computer is an ICS gateway or an ICS client then you'll need to configure it for that as well.

44160 2002-04-17 04:40:00 I no longer use ZA, but I used to under XP Pro. Configured CORRECTLY it has no probs.

For each computer go into the network properties, click on TCP/IP Protocol in the list and click properties. Assign each comp a unique IP address in the form 192.168.0.x where x is a uniqu number that is in the range 1-254 (make the host 1, and the other comp 2 for ease).

Now, goto ZA.

Go to the security tab.

Click the Advanced button.

Activate your network card in the list.

Add an IP address. state the address you have assigned to the other computer.

Exit ZA

Done

44161 2002-04-21 09:42:00 Firstly, I would check you're Tursted Zone access is set to medium - (goto Firewall then click on 'main' tab)

Next, check to se if your network is in the trusted zone (goto Firewall then click on 'zones' tab). If it isn't, right click and choose add.

Another thing is that are you using a proxy server?
If you are, only install ZA on that machine.

Hope I helped.
