44059 2002-04-16 04:14:00 i have a copy of a macromedia product but no longer have the cd that it came on. Can I somehow copy the software from one machine so that it works in the other Guest (0)
44060 2002-04-16 04:29:00 There is no way you could copy it over as the proper Install program would be editing the registry and maybe making changes to system files etc Guest (0)

44062 2002-04-16 05:56:00 Hi Sean

I disagree with the previous posters, there is/was a product that could reliably transport software from one computer to another without access to the original disks.

It is called Microhelp Uninstaller and my original version is V3. This worked fine for WFW3.11 and Win95.

The product had changed owners to Cybermedia by the time V4.5 came out and this was good for Win 98 and NT4.

I have personally used the Transport facility to shift programs such as Word and various games to other computers without any problems, registry notwithstanding!

The biggest issue I had was that with simple games (i.e. Chips Challenge) it would occasionally leave behind some odd files but when you tried to start the program it would tell you what was missing and a quck search and copy would take care of that. I don't know if the program is still in production but there must be quite a few copies out there if you go looking. Harvey Norman was selling it a few years back.

V3 came on two or three floppies and was very stable and reliable. V4.5 was on a CD. I guess it would probably get tripped up on some programs but you can always trace & copy the registry keys if one gets missed. having working installation of the program on one machine helps no end.

Cheers

Uninstaller lives! And there's a free trial download.

Go to:
