| 44282 | 2002-04-17 03:30:00 | Hi Re my earlier posts regarding faint printing from an HP6L, I talked to a printer repair shop and they said it was probably the transfer roller. This will cost about $125 to replace ($75 labour minimum, $50 parts + gst of course) and I wonder if it is something I could do myself. It looks like it just clips in and out which would be consistent with modern throw-away manufacturing techniques. I checked the DOP and found that I'd had it longer than I thought, it's 3 and a half years old but hasn't done a lot of work so maybe a clean would help. To be honest I doubt it could be cleaned, but has anybody tried this? Thanx Alex |

I have searched the net extensively for info myself and the only advice I could get on the transfer roller was to not clean it using liquids. Using inverse logic, that would suggest that 'dry' cleaning is OK so I've decided to give the roller a gentle brush with a clean stiff-bristle artist's brush. Can't make matter worse as I am unable to use the printer for anything but drafts in its present state. I'll post the results! Alex |
