44298	2002-04-18 10:19:00	Remember this is a PC forum .. so take care. I will introduce myself. I am a 6th year student at uni. I am a commerce-tourism student postgradute. Have had one PC, and 3 PC laptops. I have also taken some graphic softwares .. Ok, PC or MAC ... 1st check with the uni. 2nd if games go with PC. But having played games at uni it is quite pathetic .. big boy playing games at uni. He can always use someone else's machine. 3rd I do not think is a big deal cos at uni why not shell more bucks out and get the machine u can really work with. Buy a new one after uni. U will be surprise some depts who do graphics use PII - adobe, corel, claris ... the higher classes uses mac i think .. They do not use all latest hardware and softwares - uni are not rich! I hardly expect a uni to have P4, Athlon XP, 512MB ram, SCSI, CD RW, DVD-RW, ZIP, FIREWIRE, 19inch panels by Sony and Silicon graphics....... 4th they do have night access to labs (maybe not 1st year though). Simply too $$ to buy all softwares as uni have on your computer too. I was told some normal INFO paper on a PII PC had $30,000NZ worth of softwares on them. Can u afford them. My suggestion get what school has a PC or MAC. Believe me if u spend at school with MAC and practice on a PC .. its hard man! Not so good for his tests that is done on a MAC and practiced on a PC! Price maybe $1500NZ - I wouldn't care. $1500NZ in a life is really pig-squat. Games should not alter ur decison. Have a few softwares at least that is same or similar to uni (ie.. versions). At uni u will be eligible to get windows, office, adobe on academic pricing. Windows and office = about $300-350NZ each (normally $500 and $1200). Adobe is about $750 a piece (normally $12000). 44299	2002-04-18 10:28:00	Usage should not be a issue. Like what u said a Holden and a Ford. Visa or a mastercard ...(???). OS X or Win2k or WinXP (???). Whats the diff .... do we need to measure it to the fith decimal place. And when a MAC does crash once do we beat the crap out of it and say we shouldn't of bought u ... OS, should not be a issue especially when win9x is gone. Upgradability ... after uni .. sell it! At uni u will have other things to devote money to. School and comp becomes 2nd important issues.
