44578 2002-04-19 08:17:00 I'm old. I want to let my grandkids know about my childhood days. I like the idea of talking to my computer and having the computer convert my voice stories to text.
Is there software that will do the job available at present? Any recommendations?
How good is it?
Any recommendations?
What does the software require in the way of computer specifications? P.4 equivalent??
Thank you,
Laurie Baxter.

There are a number of programs out there that will do this for you, but I believe the best on the market is a product called 'Dragon Naturally Speaking' (or something similar).

It is (as are most of these programs) a computer dictation program, used a lot by disabled people who can't type etc., but also by busy people who would rather just talk than have to type stuff. Not only can you use it for typing, but you can run practically anything (maybe not games...) using your voice to move the mouse pointer etc.

Check the program out at your local Noel Leeming or Dick Smith, as they usually have it, or something similar.

I'm not too sure on the hardware requirements for them now, but a friend of the family uses an old version that was reasonable (the technology sure has advanced since then) on an old 486, so if your computer can't handle a new one, an older copy might work fine for you.

I hope this helps and makes sense.

Mike.

44580 2002-04-20 04:49:00 Thank you Mike. I suppose I expected that the ability to convert voice to text would be so wudely in demand that there would be a hyped up competition to produce the cat's pyjamas.
