| 44590 | 2002-04-19 08:54:00 | I have just upgraded to XP and had to update my drivers for my 56k conexant HSF modem. After it connects it emits a loud constant noise from the modem.Ihave disabled the modem speaker to no avail. | Guest (0) | ||

Start by getting the 'ATI3' string from the modem diagnostics, and the main chip number from the modem - if you post these, we can probably advise further. |

If that doesn't work - Control panel/phone and modem/modem tab/properties/advanced. In the 'Extra initialization commands' box, type ATMo (last figure=zero). If that doesn't work - Shoot it - never fails! |

Can you say which modem type you have? My friend has a Macromedia PC, and Macromedia are no more. The modem is totally unbranded and I can't determine the 'right' driver for it. The conexant driver actually works fine but does the same as yours, connects to the far end but does not mute the speaker, resulting in a very annoying squeal..... Did the suggestions made in other responses work for you? Neil. |
