44866 2002-04-21 00:44:00 Wanting to know how to get Excel-2k to give me a print preview without having a printer actually installed.
It used to work in ME but not now in XP Pro. So what is missing?
P.S print preview still works fine with Word-2k.

First F1 question

44867 2002-04-21 11:51:00 I can't explain why it used to work - in fact it shouldn't! Print preview uses information about the current printer whne formatting the preview. There are differences between printers in sizes of non printable areas, even subtle type size variations. By knowing about the printer that the application is generating the preview for, it can make the best attempt. (Sadly it doesn't always quite represent what actually prints).

You could have a single page preview on one printer, which could flow onto a second page for a different printer. So the requirement for an 'installed' printer is quite sensible.

44868 2002-04-22 11:04:00 Print Preview simply won't work with Windows XP, since when you install it with Windows ME, it probably used to have a printer driver before, and since you have upgraded to XP, you also have to install a printer driver, and most of the time Word 2000 Software always looks for a printer that was installed in your computer, if it cant find one then it won't do Print Preview.

The only best way to do is to use Print/Set Print Area, at least you have specified the area to print. Besides if you dont have a printer it doesn't take that long to adjust the margins when you use Print Preview before you commit to paper printing.
