44797 2002-04-20 12:15:00 Hi everyone....

Am thinking about putting ZoneAlarm on my computer again, but last time I had it - was bewildered as to who was trying to access my PC, and if it was safe to allow them access when an 'alert' was posted

Is there any simple way of telling who the web sites are?

Regards, AL :-)

44798 2002-04-20 12:34:00 yeah its called buy the pro version and when it pops up with a warning you can go see who it is at zonealarms website Guest (0)
44799 2002-04-20 13:16:00 simple, ignore the alerts. there is no need to know who 'bumped' your firewall. if you really want to know there are firewall addons like visualzone. Guest (0)
44800 2002-04-20 20:52:00 A easy way of doing this if you are unsure of what to allow, install ZA, then straight away log in and create permissions for the programs on your computer that you want to access the net, eg, your mail, IE, winmedia, winamp, virus update engine. Anything there after would usually get a NO. The other option in ZA is to open ZA > Alerts > and remove the tick from the Show Alerts Popup window. You don't need all those popup warnings and if you don't see it, you won't accidently allow something. Guest (0)

44802 2002-04-20 23:29:00 A lot of the time the attempts to access your PC are just websites checking to see if you are 'still there'. This is particularly true of the adverts attached to sites who give you a cookie and try to track your online movements within their site.

ZoneAlarm blocks that type of thing and just tells you that someone is 'knocking at your door', whether they are benign or not.

Like the others have said, turn off the alerts and you won't get worried about them.
