I heard that people have 3 or 4 filters in place..wat does that mean?? Doesn't 1 filter allows u to connect both ur phone and ur ADSL modem?? Y would u need more than 1?? I also heard that u have to make sure u have no other deivces such as alarm system attach to ur phone line..Wat happens if I do?? All your phone devices or devices that is on the same line each need to be filtered which is why people have 3 or 4 because they got a phone, fax, sky digital and other devices that require the phoneline. This eliminates the need for a technician to come and split your line. |

This separates the two signals before it gets to the phone jacks and allows you to use phones / faxes / burglar alarms without having to install any additional hardware. However the cost for getting a technician out is something like $99. 2) Installing filters on each jack - these filters remove the unwanted ADSL signal and allow you to use the line for telephones. The advantage of this is that you can do it yourself and it only costs $15 per filter from somewhere like Dick Smith. However if you have a lot of phones or other appliances that require phone access it could end up costing a lot more. Also you may not be able to install a filter between the alarm system and phone line if it is wired in. The best choice all depends on your circumstances. |

Your telephone communications only operarates the lower part of the frequency range (300Hz to 3,200Hz) this small frequency range limits your analogue modem to 56Kbps. Becase Copper telephone lines can handle frequency ranges up to 1MHz ADSL can ocupy the remaining bandwidth. Thus high speeds of up to 8Mbps can be achieved. Some of this extra bandwidth is dedicated to ADSL upstream and some to ADSL downstream. |
