45063 2002-04-22 08:23:00 after clearing out cookies and temp internet files , I keep getting this message come up while trying to log into chat , any chat site that is,...'microsoft visualC++ Runtime Library
Runtime error
progC:\widows|explorer.EXE
abnormal program termination. ' when I click ok to this message , the screen freezes on a webshot and have to reset comp with overide button. It seems that I have somehow deleted files that are needed to run this.
When rite clik on start icon and go into dowloaded prog files , I had several in there that were damaged , and after updating them all, all but 2 came back as installed , Q how can I get these other 2 files to reinstall , have just about got to stage of thinking about crashing puter and starting again, but would like to avoid this if possible.
The 2 files that are damaged are CV3 class , type Active X control
and the other is ichatxchatcontrol, so any input would help thanks , john .

45064 2002-04-22 08:49:00 I'm not entirely sure, but I don't think these files you deleted were in your cookies and temp internet folders. I suspect that you have deleted them from your 'Objects' folder, which are plug-ins to run extra features like your chat progs.

You will probably have to go and download the plug-ins again from wherever you got them in the first place. Not sure if they're on the Win CD or not, but they should be available somewhere on the web. Microsoft's site perhaps?

Try a search in google for chat plug-in.

45065 2002-04-26 02:11:00 Thanks for the help susan. John tried redownloading etc to no avail so have just done a reformat and reinstall. Fixed the problem for him but I'm still curious as to why it happened. It appears that they only used the delete cookies and internet files buttons on their IE6. I'm wondering if when the plug ins were first installed weather they inadvertantly placed some parts into those folders??....I'm trying to educate them at the moment with regards to cleaning regular. Thanks again for the help. Guest (0)
