| 45005 | 2002-04-22 02:18:00 | I read last post to me about Spider and d/loaded again and reinstalled without problem. I followed your instructions and everything happens exactly as you said. The computer reboots and all looks ok. The problem I have is that I immediatley go back to use Spider again to check that there are no files left and nothing has changed. All the URL's are still there as if nothing happens. What am I missing. OS is win ME. Thanks Sam |

| 45006 | 2002-04-22 04:23:00 | I'm glad it doesn't. What it does get rid of is, index.dat's, cookies & history etc. Check after using, and these entries should be gone. Bye | Guest (0) | ||
| 45007 | 2002-04-22 07:00:00 | Sam, good to hear that you've got it running now. Your observations are interesting, as I have struck that myself a few times, the most recent was yesterday. I hadn't used Spider for a week and was surprised to find that my cookies were still in the cookies folder in Windows Explorer although everything else appeared to have gone (I chose to delete everything). So I ran it again. And again. But still the cookies wouldn't go and the index.dat file didn't reduce in size. Decided to delete the cookies, and history and temp internet files while I was at it, through DOS. You can see the method further down the page in Jane's post. Anyway, went back to Spider, did the scan and sure enough the cookies had gone. Great. But wait!! Spider turned up some MORE temp internet files! But I had just deleted them from DOS and hadn't done anything else! Spider faithfully deleted those for me and after the reboot that was it, no more cookies, history nor temp internet files. And the index.dat file size had shrunk in Win Explorer. Go figure that out! Moral: it takes quite some thumping to get rid of every sneaky thing that is hiding everywhere so you may need to keep running Spider several times to purge everything. And don't be afraid to use other ammunition if need be, because Spider may not be perfect (but it tries!). If you are interested in what other people say, go here: forums.techguy.org |
