44997 2002-04-22 00:41:00 Help any1 ive just ran my Norton Anti Virus which is all up 2 date and have found a trojan, sitting there causing i dont know what mischief.
After running Norton I get a message saying ' Backdoor. Trojan', with 2 options 2 eliminate it either Automatic or Manual as im a newbie at this whole computer thing I choose the Automatic and push next. It then says 'The following items are infected' Name: MS_SETUP.exe Virus: Backdoor. Trojan Location: C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp\MS_SETUP.exe and click next 2 repair the following items in which i do.
Then i get a message saying that 'Some virusesdamage files beyond repair. The only way to eliminate these viruses is to delete the infected files. You must replace the deleted files yourself.' in which i select the option to do so and push next.
And get another message saying 'The following items are still infected with viruses' that being Name: MS_SETUP.exe Virus: Backdoor. Trojan Location: C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp\MS_SETUP.exe
But i cant even remove it manually if any1 can help i would b extremely grateful thanx.

44998 2002-04-22 01:16:00 hi,
you should (hopefully) be able to delete the file in safe mode.

To start in safe mode with win2000/XP prees F8 at startup.
Win95 press CTRL at startup.
I think 98 and ME are the same..

Then do your virus scan things should go better..
FYI: next time include your operating system in your post.
dan.
