2002-04-22 13:23:00 | 'The call was blocked by the remote computer - error 775' That's the message I get quite frequently while I'm trying to connect to the internet - usually when I've got up to about the 20th retry at dialling (Zfree - always busy now that they're shutting down...) Anyway, once I get that message I cannot use the ZFree dial-in number. I can put in another number (for example the ClearNet ISP number) and that'll dial fine, but if I put the Zfree number in it won't even dial. It makes a click like its ready to dial, then hangs up and up comes this message. It can't be the remote computer blocking it, cause my system hasn't even dialled out yet! Any suggestions? :) I tried searching in Microsoft.com, but all I've come across in there is the definition of an 'error 775', which is that the 'call was blocked by the remote computer' :) Hope somebody can help, is starting to get annoying. Mike.

2002-04-22 13:37:00 | I forgot to include the vital details: OS = XP Pro, browser is IE, although this is probably irrelevant, as this error occurs with the dialup, not specific to IE. I'm 99% sure this isn't a modem problem, as the modem dials other ISPs fine, and dials zfree fine for the first 20 or so attempts, and after a reboot dials fine again for the first 20 or so...

2002-04-22 21:07:00 | Hi Mike, Below seems to be a standard reply to this error, but have no first hand experience of this:- Error 775 1. Make sure the correct number is being dialed (check area code, etc.) 2. Make sure the number is not experiencing an outage. 3. Make sure user is not out of time for the day, etc, if this applies to the ISP. 4. Try disabling call waiting if the location has call waiting. 5. Does the number you are dialing from have voice mail? Voice mail can cause this and you will want to check your voicemail. If this becomes a common problem you may wish to reconsider having Voice mail on the number the computer dials from. If none of the above apply then it becomes more difficult. Another search suggests that it is more likely to be associated with a network rather than a dial up. Cheers

2002-04-22 21:30:00 | Terry, thanks for your response - my case doesn't fit any of those points, as my modem isn't dialling at all (yet it'll happy dial the number for another ISP). I'm wondering if there's a VERY hidden setting in WinXP that blocks more than say 20 failed attempts at dialling out? '1. Make sure the correct number is being dialed (check area code, etc.)' The number is most definitely correct - that's not the problem anyway, the number isn't being dialled. '4. Try disabling call waiting if the location has call waiting.' Don't have call waiting '5. Does the number you are dialing from have voice mail? Voice mail can cause this and you will want to check your voicemail. If this becomes a common problem you may wish to reconsider having Voice mail on the number the computer dials from.' I don't have voicemail either. Are you able to suggest anything else that might be worth looking at? Mike. PS It doesn't matter which number I use, 0867 or the local number - XP dials them alternately... and after 20 attempts at both (so all up 40 dials) the error comes up.

2002-04-22 21:49:00 | Hi there. Some modem automatically blacklist a number if repeat attempts are made to dial the number without success. 8.5 Blacklisting If phone number is dialed a few times with no success, some modems may blacklist a phone number. After a certain time you may try again. Some countries require this to reduce needless repeated dialing. To view the blacklist try %B. To delete the blacklist use these AT commands: SR Robotics o 3COM: s40=2 or if NG try s40=7 Lucent: %t21,18,0 Rockwell: %tcb Cirrus Logic: *nc9 Do a search on Google using 'blacklist number Modem' I hope this helps.
