45079 2002-04-22 09:56:00 I have a P-3 550 pc which has 3 ram slots( dimms ).
In the first and second is 64mgs of PC100 Sd ram.
I want to upgrade to at least 256mgs of ram and my question is can I use PC133 Sd ram or do I have to stick with PC100?

Thanks and regards

PC-133 will work fine. It will run at 133MHz if your board supports it, if not, it will run quite happily at 100MHz, you just won't be getting the most bang for your buck.

45081 2002-04-22 10:12:00 You should find no problem doing that. The PC133 RAM slows to suit.

I have done this myself so know it works.

PC 133 ram should run fine on your mother board. However the ram will only run at the speed that your board will support. eg: To run PC 133 ram at its intended clock speed you need to have a board that has a FSB of 266MHz.

If you have board with 200MHz FSB (100MHz system) the ram will run at its rated PC100 speed regardless whether it is PC133 or 100.

If you think you may upgrade your system in the future it is worthwhile having the PC133 ram now for later use, assumming that system will use sdram.
