45167 2002-04-23 01:50:00 Do a search for the file win.com

Right click on that file and select properties. On the general tab have a look at the 'created:' date, this date will be when windows was last installed.

45168 2002-04-23 05:22:00 Thanks Bruce, but going by that I would have installed it 3yrs ago to the day. But that is definitely not right.

45169 2002-04-23 05:30:00 Have a look in the c:\ directory. There might be a .LOG file created during the installation. It's probably noted in the Registry somewhere too. Guest (0)
45170 2002-04-23 06:17:00 Have a look at the file again and make sure you look at the 'created' field and not the 'modified' field.

When you install windows this file is 'created' and therefore is timestamped with that date. The date you are seeing (the modified date) is the date Microsoft Created/Published the file.

Note:
The 'created' field will list the full Date including the time in hours:minutes:seconds. This is very useful in pinpointing EXACTLY when windows was last installed.

The 'modified' field should resemble something like:
Friday, 23 April 1999 22:22:00

45171 2002-04-23 06:19:00 It is in the registry, but as a 32bit number that needs to be interpreted! Guest (0)
45172 2002-04-23 06:26:00 Just had a look in my C: directory and there are a number of files with the 'modified' date that I reformatted and reinstalled just before Xmas last year.

Not sure if that's any help but some of them are:

autoexec.bat
Frunlog.txt
Setuplog.old

Folders with the same date are:
Windows
Program Files
(My) Documents
Windows Update Setup Files

I don't know if these files' dates would change if you reinstalled rather than reformatted.

45174 2002-04-26 00:28:00 I don't know how to find out when you installed the OS, but what I do is when ever I install the os I change the label of the hard drive to the date that I installed it. Maybe you could do this for the future Guest (0)
