45394 2002-04-24 09:07:00 It seems to getting ridiculously out of practicality. Who reading does not have a cassette of recorded music ... mp3's, child's games. Who has really deleted WinZip after having for 30/40 days and not registering?

I am trying my best, own windows, own office bought on academic since I am a tertiary student. Heck I will now don't change windows and office ... buy hey! then Mr Gates comes along and make pple upgrade windows since new technology cannot be ran on old sofware (ie. Win95 support no higher than 300mhz CPU and 40GB HDD).

Heck again, knows about what happens when I finish uni seems like Mr Gates would get another $2,000 from me just for getting a normal version of office and windows. I have grown out of games and don't play anymore - relief. But Mp3's still remains a myth of how to overcome .. One copy on one machine at a time and maybe MUST include the principle owner (??), maybe we need to purchase licenses for more listeners??, maybe more expensive licenses if its on a surround system??, compulsory registration on each stereo (??)

Who has cracked their dvd player ... what about all the industries developing products to help the normal people to pirate. Did u pple know nations as North Korea prohibits pple takiing photos at borderline (??). How many pple scan magazines (??).

Now I define 90% of the general population as piraters.

But then one day when we can afford two PC's price we can be relief of being defined as piraters. One PC price for the PC and another for the software. Though if u have expensive taste ie. Adobe make that 3, web authoring too make that 4 and again multimedia editing make that 5 computers having to spend on. Instead maybe its better I will pursue interests that does relate to computers.

But again, what bout magazines or even a newspaper, or even recording 'Friends'.

Maybe this is another area businesses have exploited to wretch every more cent out of the consumer. Or maybe one day each of us will be bright enought and demand and suppply ourselves every single desire we may have. If we are too dumb to do this we'll just have a mental breakdown turn back time to 1960s and isolate ourselves.

But hey if u do take things from my (this) column make sure u reference me .. hey, can I introduce compulsory registration for my column............

45396 2002-04-24 17:27:00 No opinion one way or the other. I do it.

I heard something interesting the other day though. Evidently, Celine Dions? new cd has some sort of copyright protection built in which will allow you to play it, but when you go to copy it, the cd causes your computer to crash.

That might be the thin end of the wedge.

45397 2002-04-24 21:20:00 I think downloading of free mp3 music is here to stay, no matter what they try to do to stop it there will always be to a way to get them.

The music industry is going against the very people that pay their bills, maybe they should get look at ways of joining us Instead.

Frankly, I'm yet to be convinced that downloading of mp3's is making the 30 billion dollar americian music industry go broke.

Cheers,
bob
