45503 2002-04-24 23:39:00 Hello! :) i have a problem-i have a not-so-old toshiba laptop computer with 32mb of memory, and a 1.2gb hard disk (and it usually has win98 on it). i think the hard disk is totally stuffed, because whenever i install win98 on it is loses files and clusters within hours and days of me installing it-and i dont want to have to install win98 every time i use it!! :)

I know there is probably no hope for this laptop, but does anyone have any ideas on why it broke down, or if there is anyway to fix it so it works for a couple of months at least?? :) thankyou!

45504 2002-04-25 00:03:00 1.2g harddrive?? its OLD ! !

seriously......scandisk it, if it has bad sectors throw the harddrive out and buy a new one. if no bad sectors then its possible its a crook driver/setup. a new hardrive is proberly a good idea as there is not much info you can keep on a 1.2 gig drive.

45505 2002-04-25 03:58:00 hehe-i know its old in age! (its just new for me) :) It doesnt have bad sectors (but thats after its just been formatted, btw). Ill probably just chuck the whole laptop. :'(. Guest (0)
45506 2002-04-26 03:58:00 I assume that the battery is stuffed. Maybe it's pulling down the voltage to the disk motor, so its behaviour is flakey. Will it run on the power brick with the battery removed?

But talk of ditching a laptop with 1.2 GB --- mine's got 60MB (and 4 MB of RAM).

45507 2002-04-26 13:41:00 hello! :) what a discussion! i have reinstalled windows98 about five gazillion times and it does it every time. i have a windows95 disk but i lost the coa and dont know how to get it back.

the battery is most definetely not broken. when i was running off the battery one time when it was working (about last week) it lasted just over two hours. :)
