45461	2002-04-24 14:34:00	On a 233MMX W98SE 192MB, I have: IDE1 master - Seagate 10GB ST38410 drives C & D IDE2 master - Maxtor 1GB 71084A drive E IDE2 slave - CDrom drive F I have a new Benq CDRW2410A as new master on IDE2, IDE1 untouched. This works OK as C, D & E (now CDRW) - took out cd & 2nd hdd initially. How do I add back cd & 2nd hdd as slaves? Can I go: IDE1 master - 10GB drive C & D IDE1 slave - CDrom drive G IDE2 master - CDRW drive F IDE2 slave - Maxtor 1GB 71084A drive E I think CDRW needs to go to IDE2/M. I have some old games that don't seem to run on the new CDRW so I'm trying to reuse the old cdr. Also, wouldn't hurt to have a second HDD... Many thanks Tom	Guest (0)
45462	2002-04-24 21:45:00	Tom, I'd put the 10gb as IDE1 Master, the 1gb as Slave, then the CDRW as IDE2 Master, and the CDRom as slave to that. But in answer to your question, you can set it up the way you want it, you just might need to adjust a few jumpers on the drives (for slave and master etc). HTH Mike.	Guest (0)
45463	2002-04-24 23:48:00	Mike, Thanks for the quick response. Sounds good. I've had some fun swapping things around and I've thus found: 1. IDE1/M=10G, IDE1/S=1G, IDE2/M=CDRW (works OK) 2. IDE1/M=10G, IDE1/S=CDR, IDE2/M=CDRW (works OK) I'm off to get a Y-splitter to power up HD2. For some reason, CDR does not like being slave on IDE2 (OK as slave on IDE1) and hangs the boot up. CDR jumper set to slave, bios set to autodetect all 4 devices, HD1 and CDRW jumpers both set to master. Any clues? Any advantage to cable select rather than jumpered M or S? Of course, when I find a working combo the drive letters might change. Sigh... Thanks heaps Tom	Guest (0)
