45724 2002-04-26 04:59:00 On my families computer (running Windows 95)upon Windows startup, we would enter our name and a password to indentify ourselves and our preferences.

None of my family ever use sign in names anymore, nor do we have them. We have to press 'cancel' or 'x' to by-pass the window and continue into Windows.

Is there a way that I can stop that window from appearing? If so, could you please explain it in a way that a non-computer expert 14 year old can follow.

Thanks,

I assume that none of the family want to use personal preferences any more, and if this is the case you can boot direct to Windows by selecting 'Windows Logon'.

Right-click your network icon, select properties and you should see a screen with two windows. The top one will show the network components currently installed and the lower one will probably show 'Client for Microsoft Networks'

Click alongside this and choose 'windows logon' then click OK. Reboot and it should go straight to the desktop without the logon & password drama.

I'm working from memory here as I don't have W95 available but it should be the same as W98 anyway. If it doesn't work come back and we'll try again. If it does work, come back and tell us!

45729 2002-04-26 06:09:00 As far as I know you go to Start | Settings | Control Panel | Users

In the dialogue box that appears click on a name and click Delete. Do that for all names and click Close to finish.

There may or may not be further steps, I'm not sure but try that for starters.

Further to Susan B's post.

Next time you start after changing the settings, when the logon box jumps up, don't enter anything but click on ok.

Next time you start the box should be gone.

Cheers
