| 45687 | 2002-04-26 07:07:00 | Over the last few days I have restored a number of PS's with the Klez virus. It destroys a number of files from Nortons and McAfee. You should also check any floppy disks that have been used during your fix. I was only able to run Nortons after a full uninstall and reinstall. Do you wish that you had live update now? Mike |

| 45689 | 2002-04-26 11:08:00 | after you uninstalled nortons did you clean out all the leftover files and reg entries?? otherwise have a look in the liveupdate logs for a error message. C:\WINDOWS\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate read the logs in notepad. the other fix is to delete livetri.zip |

There are quite a few articles on the Symantec knowledgebase about it. Their usual advice is to uninstall, remove left over files, sometimes also remove certain registry entries, re-start and then reinstall. This has certainly worked for us at work : we do it all the time on customer's machines when liveupdate isn't playing ball and easier fixes haven;t worked. | Guest (0) | ||
| 45691 | 2002-04-26 23:57:00 | thanks guys i had a feeling it was somethin to do with the registry but exactly how do i go about deleting these registry leftovers?.. all i know is deleting the folders in program files etc..but not sure about what to delete in the registry and where to find that stuff.. thanks guys umm can you guys give me more detailed instructions on what to look for and delete?.. thanks for the help! | Guest (0) | ||
| 45692 | 2002-04-27 08:53:00 | I think this has everything to do with the Subscription Service not installing. If you find the fix before me please let me know? My sister's computer is going through the exact same problem and symantec wants you to pay for their support, even though it appears to be a problem caused by their software? Good luck Gary |

| 45693 | 2002-04-27 09:18:00 | oh okay at the last reply, but if it was something to do with the expired subscription..why does it still actually download the definitions?.. yalls get where im coming from?..seems more like software thing..it d/ls but doesnt install.. or maybe ur rite, its a subscription have?..it lets you d/l but jus cancels the install?.. i dont know.. | Guest (0) | ||

Go to this page and print it out for reference: service4.symantec.com Assuming you've uninstalled NAV, reboot your computer and do a registry backup first: Start>Run, type scanregw and press enter. Ignore the message that a backup already exists for today it will create a new backup. That creates a Rbxxx.cab backup file that you can restore back from using scanreg /restore command. Now follow the instructions on the page you printed out from the 'To remove NAV from the registry:' section. Since you've already uninstalled NAV you will probably not find most of the keys specified. When you've finished go to Edit, Find and type in Norton to see if there is anything left. If there is you will have to use your judgement on whether to delete it or not. |

| 45695 | 2002-04-29 01:02:00 | if its not installing then it might be easier to uninstall, clean out all leftovers and reinstall. if you are sure you have done a clean install then it could be corrubt download or a compression prog interfering. check sysmantec web support there is a list of things which cause that. | Guest (0) | ||
