It appears that my ummm......... somewhat senior version of Firefox may be part, if not all of my problem with Flash, which tactfully declined to install. Flash doesn't seem to think a May and September romance is quite the go. :D

That's OK, I can update it, but before I do, I need to know whether this will be a simple process that does not carry with it a bucket-load of problems. I don't want to have to fight my way through a raft of configuration settings just to get back to what I have now as I simply don't have that much spare time available right now.

So, is a Firefox upgrade going to be a mission, or will everything just carry on as usual when it has finished?

Cheers

1296636 2012-08-24 10:41:00 well if its an update from within Firefox e.g. a window pops up asking you to update then it should be fine but it might do something funny if you download it from the Mozilla website, i remember once I did it and i lost all my settings but that was a while ago and it may work better now as I wouldn't expect it to delete folders that are associated with settings, bookmarks etc. Slankydudl (16687)
1296637 2012-08-25 02:02:00 You don't actually say what version you are upgrading from but if you open help about and check for updates from there you shouldn't have any problems.
I seem to remember going through this with you before anyway. You are going to have to take the plunge one day so just bite the bullet.

1296638 2012-08-25 02:41:00 There aren't huge differences between v3.x and the current ones (at least not in terms of usability)

Most of the changes are to do with the GUI and can be easily fixed up with extensions and changing of settings to get things looking how they used to, if that's what you want.

The most annoying thing I found was that Firefox no longer asked me if I wanted to save my session when I clicked exit. You have to go into the advanced configuration (about:config) and enable that option manually now.

If you're worried about losing bookmarks etc (unlikely to happen) just backup your profile folder(s) first in case something goes funny. Of course you should have back-ups of them anyway, as with most things.

1296639 2012-08-25 03:28:00 Flash and Firefox have made very poor bedfellows for many months now. There've been heaps of upgrades to each product, but the instability in Flash continues.

The upgrades themselves are pretty painless, but Flash is just not all that it should be.
