| 1272951 | 2012-04-30 10:36:00 | Hi Team Out front at Chez Billy we have a tree and bush-planted mound that drops away steeply to our garage at the lower edge. We barked the ground below the trees many years back now to suppress weed growth, and we are about to refresh it with new bark. One problem is that weather, rain and gravity, plus cats, dogs, and birds, cause the bark to migrate slowly to the lowest edge and slide about 75cm down the bank to the narrow path along the side of the garage. It would be a very difficult job to put any type of fixed wall there to retain the bark, so I had the bright idea of a "sand sausage" made up of a series of metre (or so) long bags of sand to lay along the top edge that would conform to the shape of the land and be stable and adjustable/readjustable as required. The idea is very similar to those old sand-filled draught-stoppers that people laid at the bottom of doors, but on a larger scale. Problem is, nobody we call seems to know of any source of bags like that, sand or otherwise. I could use a large (10cm or so diameter) flexible drain pipe, which would do the job ok, but it would probably look a bit naff and would be a bugger to fill and to secure in place. Does anybody know of a source for weather-durable bags that could be used for this kind of job? They'd have to last about 10 years or so to be worthwhile doing, but I'd settle for 5, just to keep Mrs T happy. Cheers Billy 8-{) :) |

In this throw away world there isn't any bag material that will last 10 years that I can think of that won't be Hi Tec, and expensive! If the prewired rolls are too small you could buy your own 1/2 rounds and cut to length. Though you may need some heavy duty fastening(more stakes) or even concrete! | PPp (9511) | ||

Would that be strong enough to make a "sausage" sandbag? Edit: The fabric sock/tubing you put over this stuff: www.mitre10mega.co.nz |
