1273478 2012-05-04 16:31:00 Corolla reliability is legendary but still it's 7 years older, done higher mileage, and it's more expensive . . . .

Buy the Toyota .

Never buy a car beginning with the letter M .

You're closer to a fact than it appears to the untrained .

"M" cars have notably higher parts costs than almost all other permutations of the alphabet . Mazda, ESPECIALLY the Miata, Mercedes, Mitsubishi, etc . , have always cost more for after market-replacement parts .

Take the MAP sensor . Same unit on a Cadillac as it is on the Mazda and a few Mitsubishis and a smattering of M/Bs .

Cost for that MAP at the GM/Cadillac dealers (typically higher than auto parts houses) is just $57 . 00 . Auto parts houses here sell two quality lines of that part - one higher than the other for about $18 . 00 & $23 . 00 .

The same part - physically and totally interchangeable - is $160 . 00 for the Mazda, $126 . 00 for the Mitsubishi, and on the M/B (those that use the same piece): $225 . 00 .

In all, the Toyota lineup is more robust and although it may have more miles on it, it is usually a better choice for a used vehicle, as sooner-than-later, parts will be required when it ceases motivating .

Although all Toyotas are cookie-cuttered and look like clones of each other, then are grossly consistent in parts interchangeability and availability since they 'evolve' rather than pop out new-revolutionary-radical design changes, and that lowered parts inventory and higher interchangeability keeps the prices lower .

Subaru are far, far worse at this than either Mitsi or Mazda.

Maybe there - but here they are fairly competitive price-wise for parts. I noticed a day or so ago that the LADA is now out of production.

Prepare youse guys - NZ! You've got some new cars, er ---- a-coming!
