1297200 2012-08-27 09:42:00 Handbrake POS IMHO, Super not much better.
You are capturing with Virtualdub then transcoding with Handbrake?
Why not find something that does it all in one operation?
I use Adobe Premiere Pro, but of course that ain't anything like free.

Suggestions? And I just found out VirtualDub could be adding "helium" to the outputted audio anyway, the captured audio sounds too high compared to what Windows plays back directly.

1297202 2012-08-27 10:29:00 Not from me..as I said, I use a paid solution.
What about something like this.

Or if you are savvy VLC can do it.

1297204 2012-08-27 10:54:00 Can't get VLC to capture audio as well, and the output video seems choppy. It plays back fine though... pcuser42 (130)
1297205 2012-08-27 22:30:00 When I converted My VHS tapes I just used my TV tuners software to capture directly to MPEG2 in DVD compatible format and then burnt straight to DVD without any conversion (apart from nero repackaging into VOB files) and it worked really well, the results look as good as the originals.

It was an old analog tuner with old software though, something like winfast 2000. No Idea what I ever did with it or the software so that's not much help.

1297206 2012-08-27 23:19:00 The software the capture card came with (Corel VideoStudio) is useless... pcuser42 (130)
1297207 2012-08-27 23:46:00 You could see if the free trail of this does a better job.
Haven't tried it myself but have had reasonable results with some of their other free offerings (WMA to MP3 converter for instance).
