Cant see much point, given PC's HD & memory speeds, I know we certainly dont need Gigabit for internet access in NZ :rolleyes: |

In my case, I have my PC, my wifes PC, and *did* have our file-server hooked up together, as well as a slot for a spare PC patched and ready. This is because it made it nice and fast to copy across DotA2 updates in the event that she had forgotten to leave her Steam logged in. |

| 1297136 | 2012-08-27 08:52:00 | All our photos are stored on an old Celeron PC with a gigabit LAN card in the garage, opening photos from that PC is almost faster than trying to open them on the local hard drive, its great! Have been using a TP-Link 8-port gigabit switch for the past couple of years, hasn't missed a beat. I think the Digitus N-way 8 port switch is around $90 retail, but haven't used one, so can't comment on it. | Geek4414 (12000) | ||
| 1297137 | 2012-08-27 10:55:00 | I want gigabit for two reasons. 1. If Im going to get a hub/extra ports they may as well be gigabit. 2. Copying speed, we regularly copy games etc between pc's to save on steam bandwidth. |

| 1297138 | 2012-08-28 23:33:00 | The printer doesn't need gigabit :) I doubt the NIC on the printer is gigabit anyway. I'm not sure if streaming an MKV file of a few GB to the PS3 would make a different between 1Gb/100Mb? Or if PS3's can even play MKV's :S |

| 1297139 | 2012-08-29 00:27:00 | Correct, the only thing would be (Same as I do) copying games between PC's, the Steam files are portable mostly if you've gone and bought it on both accounts :) HD movies cap out around 35 / 40mbps. |
