1273887 2012-05-07 05:52:00 Another theory is that lack of exposure to germs and bacteria as children due to todays obsession with antibacterial products etc reduces the effectiveness of our immune system as adults and increases the incidence of allergies.
One bit of evidence is how multi-child families have less incidence of these problems presumably due to the children all exposing each other to various things.

Something to remember amongst all these theories though is we don't actually know for sure and it may well be a combination of many factors rather than one specific cause.

I eat what I wan't to eat. I do try to avoid too much fast food and make an attempt to balance out my diet to a degree, but mostly I don't care. I really like white bread quite a bit, but I also eat wholegrain and other breads when the mood strikes me.
Whatever I eat I'm going to die from something sooner or later anyway, I'm going to enjoy my food and not punish myself with "health food" for the crime of living. You're of course entitled to your choices, I will continue with mine.

1273888 2012-05-07 06:46:00 ^1 quite right Dugi, kids who grow up on farms have an immune system 400% better than kids who grow up in town....(test done in US iirc not NZ)

And these pansies love their Purell or hand sanitisers, no wonder we wont be able to fight a global epidemic

Wasnt someones siggy here "health is the slowest rate at which you can die..."

1273889 2012-05-09 11:02:00 I can't really remember prewar (pre 1939 that is :) )bread, but I well remember the UK wartime standard loaf, and contrary to what one may read on the internet it was crusty and delicious, it could also be bought hot even though the internet says that it had to be sold one day old. I sometimes used to nibble a corner off the loaf when bring one home from the local bakers.
I can remember getting a barracuda loaf from the corner dairy. It was a beautiful white loaf which you could break in half and had a nice crust. Was often still warm and was lucky to make it home.

While at school I was in the tramping club and could drink from just about any trickle of water without suffering but for those that were used to town water they almost had to take their own supply in to the hills.

1273893 2012-05-10 01:44:00 Another thing is that they don't even know what their products contain. The message "may contain nuts, milk products" etc.
if they cleaned out the machines this wouldn't happen. Inefficient laziness!

They're all made on the same machinery. They have to put that in there, even though they hose it down. A friend used to work at a food manufacturing place that makes snack bars and things. Better to have it on there and have your ass covered than not. Thats why you see that, but you don't see the "nuts" in the ingredients list.

I still drink the water when out in the hills because the tinnies of Guinness are too heavy to carry

That is because of the great USA suing machine. As you say it is just to cover their ar$e.
