1273241 2012-05-02 09:28:00 Hmmmm, very true. So what would you suggest I get then? I mean, if you were to go in the market for a freeview decoder, not necessarily one with a hdd, what would you consider? Would you still get tivo if you were in my position? Sanco (683)
1273242 2012-05-02 09:45:00 If you want a UHF receiver, you could get the DishTV T1020 (www.dishtv.co.nz). And once you update the firmware on it, it'll support USB hard drives. So, you can record from it. Its about $169 from most stores (Noel Leeming (www.noelleeming.co.nz) / Bond and Bond (www.bondandbond.co.nz)). It'd be a lot cheaper than something with a hdd in it

I was going to get one a few weeks ago (they were $129). But they've gone up again

1273243 2012-05-02 09:57:00 I think the EPG on the Tivo comes from the internet, not the TV signal. That is a very handy feature you would be missing.

And I dont think it's possible without the internet connection.

1273244 2012-05-02 11:39:00 I personally have just acquired one of these. www.dishtv.co.nz

I am loving it.

Replaced my cheap receive only unit. It does all I want it to do and I wonder why the heck I didn't get one earlier.

They make regular appearances on Trade Me, which is where I got mine.

1273245 2012-05-02 12:38:00 Just to reinforce earlier comments, no you can't use TiVo without an Internet connection. It does have a wi-fi adapter though which can make connecting it easier.
In the waikato region if you can pick up prime over analogue you can get freeview, I'm not sure if that's true for other areas.

Any thoughts on these units?

1273249 2012-05-02 23:02:00 The reviews are pretty good. Like the idea of being able to record to USB. Good price.
