1297428 2012-08-28 07:45:00 Hi Guys
I have recently downloaded the update for Avast 7.0.1456 and managed to get Chrome as well (don't you hate those tick boxes) which I uninstalled. Since then I have noticed that links in emails prompt an error message *this operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in place on this computer. Contact your system administrator*. Well, I am the administrator and I don't know how to fix this. Will some one give me a hand please? Mjuch appreciated.

1297429 2012-08-28 07:49:00 The problem is Chrome taking over.

Open IE, Tools/internet Options / Programs Tab, make IE the Default Browser. Your links should now work.

1297431 2012-08-28 13:17:00 Whats your email client? Iantech (16386)
1297432 2012-08-28 21:16:00 it Doesn't matter if FF is the current default. When installing chrome it tries to take over. Have you tried making IE the default, then seeing if the mails work ?

If you have and theres still problems you have to change the reg keys that Chrome made..

try looking for the reg keys: This is copied from another site. ( had to do this many times)

Restore registry settings in the User Profile
1. Click Start, click Run, type Regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

2. Locate the following subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.html

3. On the File menu, click Export.

4. In the Export Registry File dialog box, enter HKCU_Classes_HTML_Backup.reg and click Save.

Note: This will create a backup of this registry key in the My Documents folder by default.

5. Right click the (Default) value for the .html key and select Modify...

6. Change the value from "ChromeHTML" to "htmlfile"

Repeat steps 1-6 for .htm and .shtml keys if they exist, remember to change the name of your backup file for each export.

Note: Sometimes you also have to look in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\ look for the file name as mentioned in #6 above.

1297433 2012-08-28 22:54:00 Aren't Google lovely?...Do no evil? a Tui moment if ever I heard one KarameaDave (15222)
1297434 2012-08-28 23:00:00 Yes, i got an inadvertent Chrome install quite a while ago and had this problem after uninstalling it. It certainly is bloody annoying that a company like Google could do this.

It is also bad news the way Chrome is sneaked onto comps. A large proportion of comps I see have the thing installed. The link problem is a compounding factor.
