1297082 2012-08-26 03:25:00 What happened to the 3-4 year replacement cycle? Since dual processors and cheap memory came on the scene, the darn things keep on doing what they should for YEARS and YEARS!! And Win 8 runs even better than Win 7 so an OS change is not an excuse anymore. We don't have the excuse of falling behind with the latest game, either, as we don't play computer games.

My one (E8400) is getting close to 4 yrs and my wife's passed down from me, is well over 7 yrs old and both perform what is required perfectly well.

Guess I will have to wait till one of them really craps out big time:groan:

1297083 2012-08-26 03:40:00 A carefully placed cup of water (or carelessly if you catch my drift :p) could cause the computer to need replacing all of a sudden. icow (15313)
1297084 2012-08-26 03:45:00 get a drill and drill into the metal cover on the cpu... then keep drilling... Slankydudl (16687)
1297085 2012-08-26 03:49:00 As a side note if you do upgrade without killing your computer I could be interest in the motherboard and cpu... icow (15313)
1297086 2012-08-26 04:31:00 All good suggestions!!

Sorry, icow, but my wife gets my hand-me-downs! If I ever get to hand this one down, that is.

What 3 - 4 yr cycle?

The only reason for upgrading every 3 yrs (perhaps less if you have the money) is gaming. Other than that, you upgrade when you have to - either something dies or the new O/S needs it.

1297088 2012-08-26 09:11:00 Does your PC feel sloooow...?? That's an excuse to replace a PC (well not really as it can be fixed easy enough) ChazTheGeek (16619)
1297089 2012-08-26 10:21:00 Being truthful, my PC is not slow at all!! I'm just too honest and boring. Guess the buying cycle will get kicked off when my wife's old hand-me-down gives out. But they are just so reliable now! linw (53)
1297090 2012-08-26 10:56:00 just put more ram in it... always feels better when you got more ram. Slankydudl (16687)
1297091 2012-08-26 22:24:00 That's what Linw doesn't want to do... ChazTheGeek (16619)
