1273231 2012-05-02 05:43:00 There goes me again asking for help in making a decision.

This time is about freeview and a quality satellite receiver.

I do have a receiver already but it is the cheap type and would like to move to a better quality receiver and picture, hence my asking for your views.

Things the are important to me are, aside the price/quality balance, are as follows:

1 - Good quality receiver all round
2 - HDMI input
3 - Best quality picture without breaking the bank
4 - A reasonable EPG length

What are your thoughts, views etc?

I always very much appreciate all of your input.

Roberto

1273232 2012-05-02 05:49:00 Are you outside the terrestrial coverage area? because it has much better picture quality than satellite if you can receive it.
I can't advise on satellite receivers though, never had one myself.

1273234 2012-05-02 07:38:00 Hi Dugimodo, I am in an urban area so I guess I could get the UHF signal ok, however I do have the dish and the old tv aerial. I do not know whether the standard aerial used for the old tv would do for freeview? Sanco (683)
1273235 2012-05-02 07:44:00 If the old aerial is uhf and its in good nick, it should work for freeview terrestrial. If your area can get it. Since, terrestrial uses an aerial not satellite Speedy Gonzales (78)

1273237 2012-05-02 08:22:00 Yes, Hastings can get both terrestrial and satellite. And yes! I have just spoken to the people who installed the old aerial for us and it is UHF! I think I may go get a cheap tivo then - what do you think? Sanco (683)
1273238 2012-05-02 08:47:00 Yes, over a straight satellite only decoder a tivo is like a video recorder on steroids. Well worth the investment.

If you can, wait for bond and bond to sell the tivo for $199. Seems to be once a month at the moment.

1273239 2012-05-02 09:06:00 Only thing is I do not have broadband in the house, but in my outside office only. Can I use tivo without the internet connection, just as a freeview decoder? In essence I do not care much for the caspa stuff at this stage, just the freeview channels at high definition. Sanco (683)
1273240 2012-05-02 09:18:00 I think the EPG on the Tivo comes from the internet, not the TV signal. That is a very handy feature you would be missing. Greven (91)
