45877 2002-04-27 08:04:00 In Explorer under Windows and I go to Temp internet files and then IE5 can I DELETE ALL THOSE FOLDERS CONTAINED there to regain Disk space or should I leave them growing if one is a beginner to Computers, some are 5mb or more. Thanks Ralph Guest (0)
45878 2002-04-27 08:49:00 You could delete them but I think you had better leave those ones alone for now.

You don't say what operating system you are using (Win XP or Win98, etc) or what version of Internet Explorer (5.x or 6.0?) but usually that folder contains the files from the previous update of Internet Explorer.

If you delete those files you won't be able to revert back to the previous version of IE if you wish to and you may not be able to 'fix' IE if it goes wonky for some reason without re-downloading the correct files (I think this last bit is correct, I'm not entirely sure).

If you want to get rid of your Temporary Internet files from browsing, that's simple:

Close IE and OE, go to Start|Settings|Control Panel|Internet Options and click on the Delete Files under Temporary Internet Files.

It's also a good idea to clear the History as well, unless you use that a lot and don't want to lose what is saved in there. In any case, change the number of days to as low a setting as you can bear to keep your internet cache slim. Mine is 1 day.

45879 2002-04-27 09:11:00 Within IE there is an option to clear all Temporary Internet files. Use that to regain space. Not using IE so can't tell you exactly where it is. Guest (0)
45880 2002-04-27 21:58:00 Yep - it's safe as houses! i always clear out everything within that folder - all the previously viewed websites/giffs/jpgs, the odd cookie that finds it' way in there and html files. Some of them get a bit stubborn and won't go but there are ways to get rid of them. I haven't experienced any problems with the PC or IE when the folder is cleaned out. Go for it. Guest (0)
45881 2002-04-28 08:55:00 Ralph, I got a bit mixed up after seeing your reference to the IE5 folder so I am amending my previous reply to you.

That folder is not related to IE updates.

It is safe to delete the contents of your Temp Internet files that you mentioned. The correct way to do it is through Control Panel following my previous instructions rather than through Windows Explorer.
