45796 2002-04-26 10:40:00 IP address are controlled by your ISP not you. When you go anywhere in the world your ip address is a fingerprint you leave behind and you cant get rid of it (at least not easily)Its just the way it is.

suggest you go to www.grc.com to see exactly what info your leaking out. If its only your ip address then be assured its the same as all of us..

If Robo wants to find out who i am he will need a court order to have my isp hand over my name and address and i will have to commit something pretty heavy for that to happen.

This guy is probably just messing with you..

Next time you come across him tell him you a 'special' nz agent for the 'nsa' and the dudes in black trench coats and sunnies are on their way

have fun

45797 2002-04-26 10:53:00 sounds like bullshit.

with most filesending apps its easy to workout your ip address, as long as you accept a file transfer.

also going to any website will give away your ip to that server/servers. how to you think a web site knows where to send the info.

as far as i know there is no virus/trojen jpegs unless its a renamed file.

45799 2002-04-26 12:31:00 jpg is a safe format. it does not have an executable section. Guest (0)
45800 2002-04-26 13:26:00 jpg maybe safe. I recently messed around with HTML inside a file with jpg extension and to my surprise it showed the HTML coded page inside the jpg. May just have something to do with the mime type.

Still something to worry about I guess. Who knows what else you can store in a jpg maybe scripts that won't be detected by your antivirus running off webpages.

45801 2002-04-27 03:40:00 A file with a '.jpg' extension is not necessarily a 'JPG file'. An HTML file with a '.jpg' extension *will* cause a JPG viewer to give an error message. If it is passed to a browser (an 'HTML viewer'), it will cause the HTML to be interpreted. But *only* if the browser can recognise it as HTML. Normally, recognition is by the extension and it should be sent to the JPG plug-in. And give an error message.

If you an included 'picture' file in email, don't open it in the mail reader. Save the file. Open it in the appropriate viewing software. If it is 'wrong' remove it.

Anyone can discover your IP address (even a dynamic one), but that does not need a Trojan.

Stupid bullshitters are best ignored. But a suggestion that you have a *very* big brother coming to visit ...
