| 46044 | 2002-04-28 07:48:00 | Hello Keith: I dont know about WinXP, but for Win95/98 the settings for microphone are tricky. You dont want to hear your mic from your pc speakers, to avoid feedback. But you do want other talk & recording programs to hear your mic. In Win95/98, this is how it is done: Setup the windows mixers to mute your mic on playback. When you click on the speaker icon in the system tray, the first mixer displayed is the 'Play' control. This controls what is heard from the speakers. Tick the little square to 'mute' your mic. There is also a 'Record' control. This controls the audio for recording/talking programs. You get to this from the play control, by clicking on options/properties/recording/ok. Tick the little square to 'select' your mic, and adjust the mic level. Now, others can hear you, you can hear them, but your mic wont feedback. Is this any help Keith? |

| 46045 | 2002-04-28 10:18:00 | To Bazza from LL Thanks a million. In February I bought a cheap microphone ($10) to see how it would work on my machine, and to learn a bit about basic sound files. Until now though, I was not able to make it record. Your posting did the trick for me. I hope it did the same for Keith. I was going to put a query on Press F1 when there was a quiet spell, but it is never quiet these days is it. Also, my problem was just a want rather than a need, so I left it hoping that one day I would find an answer. You have just supplied that answer. Thanks once again. LL |

| 46047 | 2002-04-29 09:43:00 | To Keith (and Bazza.) Just in case you are wondering why it worked for me but not for you Keith, my problem was much simpler than yours. I use Windows 98,(P111 450), and windows media player, but not Nett Meeting. All I wanted to do was to try recording using my cheap microphone. Like you Keith my microphone worked through the PC speakers and had been activated in all places possible. I read all that I could find out about recording, however until I read Bazza's posting I had not managed to record a sound file using the windows media player that came bundled with my computer. As I was not trying to talk to anyone using Nett Meeting, my problem ended when I managed to make a sound file. I wish you best of luck in finding a solution to your problem Keith. Cheers. LL |
