46017 2002-04-28 01:35:00 i have been told that windows 98se is better than me and then i get told 95 is better than 98
this would make 95 better than me
now i find this hard to believe
i am thinking of going to me from 95 as i can get it free
is me really that bad?

46018 2002-04-28 01:53:00 it depends a lot on the hardware you have. me is ok if you have all the correct drivers and you do a nice clean install.

win 95 is better with old slow hardware. however microsoft don't support it.

my fav pick is still 98SE. you can get drivers for everything and is still supported by microsoft. its a known evill that is easy enough to fix and tweak, unlike XP as some people have found out.

46019 2002-04-28 03:56:00 The main advantage of win95 over 98se is that the browser isn't integrated with the OS in 95 - ie everything works a bit faster because you aren't using internet explorer to look at your folders etc.

If you're thinking of using any USB devices, you will need to have at least win98. (some late releases of '95 did have USB support, but it frequently doesn't work).

On my older computers, I just run win98se which I then speed up by using 98lite - a program which keeps the 98 OS, while stripping the browser integration from it - making it as fast as 95. It's available from www.98lite.net (NOT www.98lite.com) and is easy to use - just run the program on a 98 installation and it'll basically turn a lot of the 98 settings into options.

I think it's US$25 at the moment, but well worth it in my book, and they used to have a free version up as well (not sure what the differences are)

46020 2002-04-28 06:50:00 Nothing wrong with any of them really. Win95 is good on a older slower system but does not have support for usb. Win98se does support usb but I found to be top heavy with add ons. WinME is also good even though it has it critics who rubbish it as being buggy. WinME though does like a clean install rather than a upgrade I have found. If you are using a older slower system I would stick with 95, something newer, your choice between 98se and ME, both should serve you well. Guest (0)
