46438 2002-04-30 03:17:00 My Toshiba Sattelite, when booting up, reports that 'a required .DLL file, .DLL, was not found.' The message appears twice, but clicking on OK continues the boot-up sequence, and the machine appears to run normally. How do I get more information on what specific file its looking for, and how do I then replace it? Guest (0)
46439 2002-04-30 10:37:00 Hi Jim,

A handy way to determine the exact startup problem is provided with Windows. After restarting the computer, a message 'Starting Windows 95/95...' will appear, pressing F8 at this time will display a boot menu. One of the options is to create a bootlog, this will create a file (c:\bootlog.txt) which logs all processes called during startup and if they succeeded or failed. After determining the exact missing / corupt dll and the program it belongs to, a simple reinstall over the top should replace the file.
