| 46409 | 2002-04-29 21:20:00 | I think this has said a lot about advertising... Too much of it, or too obtrusive, and people complain. We've all been happy with the advertising on this site, up to now... then suddenly everybody is complaining about one tiny little ad. I am surprised it hasn't been removed by now - I wonder how many people have to actually leave PressF1 before something will be done about it? I mean, what's the use of advertising when nobody is using the site - let alone really wanting to buy the product advertised (I've seen nobody actually say they'd buy Compaq lately, but seen PLENTY of people say that they definitely won't be buying Compaq... Brilliant advertising on the part of IBM or Dell maybe? LOL) Mike |

| 46411 | 2002-04-29 22:30:00 | Peter - I think you're wrong. This site is marketed in the magazine as a site that caters for everyone, including newbies. We have an extremely large proportion of newbies contributing to the site. In fact this site is one of the few where a newbie can safely ask a dumb question without being flamed. So, my argument is, many of the sites users wouldn't even know what an addstopper is,let alone how to use one. The number of newbies is evident by the number of people who thought the ad was a virus. Let us not get casual about invasive advertising just because there is software out there that can remove it. G P |
