| 46384 | 2002-04-29 13:06:00 | Hi I just bought a new computer and everything is gonig fine. Love Win Xp apart from the fact that I cannot get some of my games that where on my old machine (Win98) to install. The one in particular is the Sims (which just quietly is why I bought the comp.) The installation starts off fine then at about 30-40% the cd drive revs up something wicked and an error message stating that InstallShield has failed and thats that. I have tried all troubleshooters and the EA tech support site but nothing works. This has happened with 3 other games also (Baldurs Gate 2, C & C and others) The game site says there is no issues with WinXP. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I've had it three days already and it won't work. | Guest (0) | ||

I would ask questions of your computer supplier. Make sure you stree the point the problem is in INSTALLING a program from CD rather than RUNNIG a game. You could try disabling DMA mode for the CD - I have a suspicion that the problem is to do with the CD interface. | Guest (0) | ||

Go into your program files folder and find the Installshield folder. Open it up and you will find a folder in there called Engine. Delete all the files in the Engine folder (or put them in a safe place if your worried something may go wrong so you can put them back if you have to). Now try to install the game. It should be fine. if that does not work try installing the game from the Administrator account. |
