If it isn't, in explorer, goto veiw>folder options (Win95/98) tools>folder options (WinME/XP/2000) or goto folder options in the control panel. Click on the view tab. Scroll down to the option that says hide extensions of known file types, and untick the box. click OK, and goto the file. It should now be called 'abc.gif' right click on the file and select rename, or select the file and press F2. rename the file 'abc.zip' when you press enter after typing the new file name, it will come up with a warning about changing file extensions. Click 'yes'. Done. G P |

As for your file associations... just right click and select 'choose program' + 'open with' and then put a tick in the box that says 'always use this program to open these files'. To reassociate a file with an association of your own choice... go into explorer (not internet explorer) and select 'tools' + 'folder options' and click the tab marked 'file types'. Once you've done that click 'new' and put in the extension you want and then click 'advanced' to select what program you want to open with that particular extension. The advantage of this is that you can also have several programs to open the same file if you want. Hope this helps :-) |

If you then hit the End key you can just backspace the 'gif' extension and type 'zip' instead, then press Enter. Hey presto, That's all there is too it! I use ACDSee to view images of all types including gif files. It works for me :-)You can get it from www.acdsystem.com. Cheers, Rod. |
