| 46937 | 2002-05-03 08:38:00 | Hi, I have three computers. One of them has a Fast-Ethernet capable RealTek 8139 based card capable of 100mbps operation (full duplex as well). The other two have a RealTek 8029 based chipset which I can only seem to get to work at 10mbps. I am connecting the computers through a 10/100 switching hub. What I want to know is, is 10mbps fast enough for file transfers and games (eg unreal tournament, c-strike, quake3 etc) or do I need to go out and buy two new fast ethernet cards like the RealTek 8139 ones? |

If not, it's good to get away from the keyboard. Go for a walk, make a cuppa, talk to someone ... while a big file transfers. I was impressed by the speed of a 20 char/sec terminal after using a 10 char/sec one for a few years. 9600 baud impressed me. 19200 seemed about the same. Ethernet at 10 Mbps is OK. I have CDs on a couple of machines, and mount them on others. It's acceptably fast (at 10 M) to me. |

However for large file (100mb+) transfers it might be abit slow it depends on how long your prepared to wait while transfering files. | Guest (0) | ||
