| 46902 | 2002-05-03 02:05:00 | Great site this. Hi again I wrote last week about start-up problems. I fiddled made it worse, got it back again somehow. Now I reckon I should take everything off the hard drive and start from scratch. Its on 1.5Gb so have about 400mb free. I have removed ms office and games, still not a lot of free space. If I have 6 pictures in my digital camera the computer really grinds away.SO I'm sure the hard -drive has heaps of junk in it. I have a format floppy and my origional w95 disk. Question is it as easy as it sounds. Wipe the hard-drive clean then just put in w95 then start reloading the computer with the programs I require? I know I will have to re-install my modem, all my e-mail addresses, and favorite sites, but I'm sure it will be worth it as I have learnt from my mistakes, especially with using my scanner on th ewrong settings and having photo's of 300mb and more. Now I have them down between 12/40mb depending what they are for. Hoping someone out there can let me know, just how easy it is to clear the hard-drive and start loading up again.PS I have been given another 1.5gb hard-drive but as yet not game enough to install it. regards ...the fiddler |

Thats easy just go into dos mode and type format c: Then it should say are you sure you want to do this just type y. The spare 1.5gb you sounds like you need it its easy to install aswell as your secondary hard drive. |

Do the same backwards when u have reloaded windows. You can back up all emails and address book in many different ways and forms depending on the program you use. As long as you know what to do with a start-up disk and can handle the odd dos command once windows is wiped, then I think you should have no trouble reformatting. I think it's a wise decision you have made actually as a reformat every now and then is quite beneficial to a tired computer. It pays to have a piece of paper handy to write down your ISP settings and various other bits n pieces so you can set up again with minimal pain. If you need any help or have any questions, you're in the right place! Good luck :o) |

Go to the following sites, have a good read then print out the instructions that you like the most and you can't go wrong. Just remember to make absolutely sure that you have backed up all the data you want to keep, including favorites, emails, etc etc. Good luck and have fun. www.planethardware.com www.pcnineoneone.com www.everythingcomputers.com www.cyberwalker.net |

It's a Very Good Idea after the format to make a directory called Win95 and 'xcopy d:\win95\*.* c:\win95 . Then you can 'cd win95' and 'setup'. It is a good use of 10MB or so. It makes reinstalls, adding bits and pieces, etc easy. |
