47100 2002-05-04 09:29:00 I've been running the Outpost firewall for a few weeks now and quite like it.

Even though I try to ignore them and know that a lot of them are just current sites checking to see if I'm 'still there', it is still a worry seeing all the different connection requests under the Attack Detection plug-in.

It seems like every two seconds there is either a port scanned or connection request, sometimes by a whole range of different IP addresses and sometimes the same one.

What really concerns me tonight though, is that under the Blocked connections there is one from the remote host us.i1.yimg.com using Internet Explorer and HTTP remote port. The reason given is Learning Mode.

What the heck is this? Do I have an undetected trojan that NAV has failed to pick up??? Help!!

Suggest you install the trojan remover programme from last months PCWorld cd and then do an update to get the lastest definitions.

You may be,as I was, surprised at what you may find.

47102 2002-05-05 00:23:00 Thanks Orac.

Got no trojans and have finally traced the culprit to yahoo.com. Must have just been something to do with a visit to them but don't know why Outpost needed to block it.

Oh well, wasn't serious so I'm happy. :-)

47103 2002-05-05 05:14:00 I tried Outpost and various other firewalls...however I am sticking with Zonealarm. I tried using 'leaktest' as described on the Leaktest site, renaming the 'leaktest.exe' file to that of 'IEXPLORE.EXE' (Internet Explorer) and only Zonealarm refused access. Other firewalls were fooled into thinking that IE was trying to connect to the internet!! Guest (0)
