47043 2002-05-04 06:10:00 Hi

Just wondering why was the RAM price lowered so low last year at Nov and Dec? The 128mb sticks were only $40-$50 and I heard there were some selling it at about $20, why was that...was there a catch or was the sticks too faulty to be sold at $90-$100. I mean now, the 128mb RAM sticks are always costing round about $90 and $100.

So could any one tell me what happened at that time and what's happening now with the price of the RAM, thanks alot.

Thanks

47044 2002-05-04 06:31:00 It is because of the universal laws of supply and demand. Last year mam was plentiful, manufacturers were pumping out heaps and competition forced the price down.

Since then (I can't remember the reason now but someone else will know) there aren't so many manufacturers and not as much ram is being made now. This has made it less readily available and we have to pay higher prices for it.

For once in my life I actually bought something at the right time!

47046 2002-05-04 07:56:00 there was quite a big onersupply hence the price drop. however since then ddr is gone mainstream and production and sales have been increased. sdram prices are fairly steady thou i would expect them to increase as ddr motherboards become commanplace. Guest (0)
47047 2002-05-04 08:53:00 Yes since then many manufacturers have switched to R.D. ram, they couldent sell S.D. ram at a profit so it was a good time to retool to make R.D. ram
I got 512 meg I think it was in december, for $200. I dont think I will need to upgrade it in the life of it.

47048 2002-05-04 09:47:00 NZ has remained for stable than the international counter parts.

ie. laptop 256MB = $250nz.

www.crucial.com went from $200 - $400 is a short period.
