47030 2002-05-08 11:05:00 Fred, I can't open your other page with the 13 responses. I keep getting a black screen, so I can't check whether my post ever showed up.

So here goes again. After I was assured by a tech guy that there'd be no problems at all downgrading from ME to Win98 I went ahead and did it. The process was relatively smooth, but I ended up with a computer that takes ages to boot.

I've learnt to live with that as I much prefer using Win98.

I'd think very carefully before going up to XP, and do lots of prior research on the internet, as some scanners and devices can't be used with XP from what I've read.

Have you thought about contacting SeniorNet in your area. Here is a webpage of contacts www.seniornet.org.nz

You might find s keen tech person there who'd be willing to help solve the problem.

Stick with it, the solutions out there somewhere. If you want to know the steps I took let me know and I'll dig up my notes.

thanks for your reply , Ihave looked up my equipment on the net and by the look of thing they should work ok. with XP. I will get onto seniornet as I had some begginers lessons with them and they have a place up here in Warkworth,it seems as though you have had just as bad a run as I have ,is your stuff Hewlett Packard as well ,all mine is so I thought a company with a so called good name would have no problems , but have had nothing but problems ,seems as though I am just unlucky and have got another bad one .
all the best Fred
