| 47268 | 2002-05-05 10:26:00 | Ive a 35pg family history that I want to include .jpg photos. Text alone is 80kb, but when I add just 1 photo, and save the file it goes out to 500kb. I thought there was a way to link but not embed the photo and keep a reasonable file size? Under Insert/Picture there are 2 options available, Link to File, and, Save with Document. Whatever option I choose, the file still retains the pic and goes to 500kb. Thanks in anticipation. |

Word still seems to load the picture and worse, as far as I can tell, if it is a compressed file like a JPG then it seems to expand it to BMP format first. One option is just to store small version of pics with Word. You need to use an editor to change the size and resolution to minimise space. Generayy you can get a 3' x 2' photo down to about 20Kb and still get reasonable on screen viewing but not good for printing. Another option is to Insert Hyperlinks to your pics even if they are on your own machine. Then at least you have documented what goes where and you could then get Word to do a Save As HTML and view and print the output in your favourite browser. |
